Stir Up the Gift of God Within You |2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV |Daily Healing Word | May 7

“Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6, NKJV

Do you ever feel like you’ve lost your fire or enthusiasm? We all have times when we feel overwhelmed by circumstances in life, but that’s when you need to stir up what God has placed on the inside of you. Remember, there are no disadvantages with our God. You have everything you need to succeed right in your hand. No weapon formed against you is ever going to prosper when you stir up the gift inside. How do you stir it up? By praying, believing and meditating on God’s Word!

📖 1. Context and Exegesis

The Apostle Paul is writing to his spiritual son Timothy, who was facing discouragement and timidity in his ministry. Paul reminds him of his sincere faith, first seen in his grandmother Lois and mother Eunice (v.5), and exhorts him not to let the gift of God lie dormant. The phrase “stir up the gift” (Greek: anazōpyreō) literally means “to rekindle a fire” or “fan into flame.” It implies that Timothy had received a spiritual gift—likely for ministry leadership—through Paul’s laying on of hands (cf. 1 Tim. 4:14).

Paul urges him to activate that gift, especially in times of fear or spiritual apathy. The following verse (v.7) emphasizes that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” This clarifies that what Timothy needs to overcome his challenges is already within him—he just needs to stir it up.

🔍 Key Messages:

  • Spiritual gifts can lie dormant if not actively stirred.
  • Discouragement can suppress the fire of God, but we are called to reignite it.
  • Stirring up the gift is an intentional act: through prayer, faith, and engagement with God’s Word.

🙇🏽 2. Prayer of Repentance

Scripture: Psalm 51:10“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Heavenly Father, I come before You acknowledging the times I’ve allowed fear, discouragement, and the cares of life to dim the fire of Your Spirit within me. Forgive me for neglecting the gift You’ve placed inside of me. Forgive me for spiritual laziness, doubt, and self-pity. I repent for letting my circumstances define me more than Your Word. Lord, rekindle in me a deep hunger for Your presence and a fresh commitment to serve You wholeheartedly.

🙏🏾 3. Prayer of Thanksgiving

Scripture: James 1:17“Every good and perfect gift is from above…”

Father, I thank You for the gift of salvation, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and the spiritual gifts You’ve entrusted to me. Thank You for calling me with purpose and equipping me with everything I need to fulfill Your will. Thank You for never leaving me, even when I falter. I bless You because the gifts and calling of God are irrevocable (Romans 11:29). Thank You for new beginnings and for igniting a fresh fire in my soul.

🙏🏾 4. Prayer of Requests

Scripture: Luke 11:13“How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Lord, I ask You today for a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit upon my life. Stir up the gift You have placed within me—gifts of wisdom, service, teaching, leadership, faith, or encouragement. Help me to identify and boldly walk in them. Empower me to overcome fear, doubt, and lethargy. Restore my passion for ministry, for loving others, and for advancing Your kingdom. Surround me with people who fan the flames of faith, not those who quench it.

📣 5. Declaration of Faith

Scripture: Isaiah 54:17“No weapon formed against you shall prosper…”
Scripture: Philippians 4:13“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Today, I declare that the fire of God is burning again in my spirit. I will not be ruled by fear, weariness, or defeat. I am anointed. I am chosen. I am filled with God’s Spirit and equipped for every good work. Every gift in me is coming alive again. I will pray with power, serve with passion, and love with boldness. The enemy will not silence me. I stir up the gift of God within me, and I move forward in victory, by faith!

🔥 Closing Reflection

Beloved, no matter how dim the flame may seem today, there is still a spark. And where there is a spark, there can be a blaze. Stir it up. Pray. Meditate on His promises. Surround yourself with truth. You are not finished—God is not through with you.
